Discover Rowing on the Portage Lakes

Rowing doesn’t get easier. You get stronger with every stroke.

See you on the Water

Our Story

Portage Lakes Rowing Association (PLRA), founded in 2005, is the only organized sweep rowing club in the Akron / Canton area. We offer amateur athletic programs for both competitive and recreational rowers of all skill levels. Rowing from April through November PLRA offers the opportunity to be on the water multiple days a week in the club's fleet of 8's and 4's.

PLRA rows out of Rex Lake with our boathouse located at Crasftsman Park. When the weather is nice we race around Rex, Mud and Turkeyfoot Lakes. If it's not we train indoors.

We are a member ran club which means that we all pitch in and learn how to row, repair, maintain, and cox the boats.

Benefits of Rowing

Build Technique

Rowing is a full-body sport that builds strong, efficient technique over time. With each stroke you’ll improve your timing, balance, and power on the water.

Teamwork & Community

Every boat moves only when the crew works together. Rowing at PLRA means learning to trust your teammates, make new friends, and be part of a supportive club.

Time on the Water

Rowing lets you spend quiet, focused time on the Portage Lakes. You’ll enjoy sunrise rows, fresh air, and a break from screens while still getting a great workout.
